Eulji Myeonok, a second-generation offshoot of pioneer naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant Uijeongbu Pyongyang Myeonok, has been serving its trademark buckwheat noodles since 1985. The noodles repose in a bath of cold dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth, whose mild kick is derived from floating slivers of chive and spicy green pepper. Crowning the ensemble are three slices of meat, half a hard-boiled egg and a ground Korean chili pepper garnish.
The restaurant’s existence is threatened by an urban renewal project. Naengmyeon aficionados are advised to get it while it’s hot - or cold.
