Forerunners of Sex EducationJung Mi-jung (37), Lee Hyun-sook (35), and Kim Sung-a (38) are at the forefront of sex education in Korea. The three are actively involved iwith the Sex Education Center (319-5056) of the Naeil Women's Youth Center.
Kim Sung-a of the Yongdung-po Outcry Center, attached to the Naeil Women's Center, is well-known as a sex education instructor, many referring to her as 'Little Gu Sung-ae.' Lee Hyun-sook constructed a website for sex consultation on the net three years ago and is known as the Cyber Sex Counselor.
In 1995, during the trio's university days, they began to take notice of the dearth of sexual education. They participated in the student movent and have continued to remain involved with the social problem.
Schools, community organizations, parents and young people are stepping forward to lecture on sex education. They have already published and distributed 6-7 booklets and teaching guides onsex education, including 'Outcry' for students not yet in middle school.
The trio recently published sex education cartoons for elementary school students titled, 'Outcry of Children.' The book is suitable for young people. They stated that,"We publish such books because of the lack of proper sex education material for students not yet in middle school."
"It is important that parents and children speak freely on the topic of sex education. When parents buy books, they should read them with their children and discuss the issues," the group stressed.
