Inmates to Stage Large-Scale Musical

A large-scale musical will be staged by 500 prison inmates at a juvenile detention center in April.
A spokesman at the Ministry of Justice announced the project on February 20 saying, 'About 500 inmates at Chon-an Juvenile Detention Center, all under 25 years old and first-time offenders, will perform 'Dancing Stars', April 1-2, at the center's outside stage.'
'The musical delves into the story of wandering youths who commit crimes on impulse. Through the production process, the young inmates will have a chance to look back on their own pasts and also have fun,' the spokesman explained.
'Dancing Stars' portrays the lives of several teenagers who have been overlooked by society and ended up in prison because of their troubled lives. They finally come to terms with their anger and hatred towards society and learn to love anew.
Renowned actors, Choi Pul-am, Yang Teak-cho, and Pae Yu-chong, and comedian Kim Mi-hwa will make guest appearances in the production. Some 500 inmates will perform as actors and chorus singers, while another 500 will work on the stage production.
