Military Radio Program Surpasses 2000 Shows

'Consolation Train', the KBS-1 radio(97.3 MHz) program which airs every Sunday morning at 5 am, will broadcast its 2000th show on May 16.
Operated under the Ministry of National Defense, it first took to the airwaves on October 27, 1961, covering military topics and providing entertainment to the nation's Armed Forces.
It was the first domestic program recorded in front of a live audience and has never missed one program in 38 years, the longest-running program in Korean history.
During the Vietnam War, it covered battles and everywhere else soldiers went.
It was a very popular show before the dawn of television broadcasting.
The program will invite generals, singers, and military marching bands to celebrate its 2000th show at Kyeryongdae Military Base at a prerecording on May 13 prior to Sunday's airing.
