&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Readers are the judges of the press

The government seems to react too much sensitively to the press. It may think that the press is rude and insolent and wrongly accuses the government that does its best on state affairs.
But it is worrisome that President Roh Moo-hyun in person steps forward to blame newspapers bluntly.
I think that the president degrades the authority of the government by doing such things himself. The press just provides articles. It is readers, people, who will judge them. If the articles were false and biased, and if newspapers keep reporting criticism even though the government is doing well, then people will turn away from those newspapers.
Therefore I hope the government will do its job well and stick to its duties without constantly looking over its shoulders.
