[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Bring back prisoners from North
Published: 02 Nov. 2003, 22:17
The Ministry of National Defense announced that 496 South Korean soldiers captured by North Korea in the Korean War are alive in North Korea. Past administrations maintained that there were no South Korean soldiers captured by North Korea, that there were only soldiers who went to North Korea voluntarily. Now that the government has admitted the existence of South Korean war prisoners, it should tackle this issue directly.
The government should put repatriation of the soldiers on the agenda when having an official meeting with North Korea. The government must not cover up or ignore this issue anymore. The soldiers made sacrifices for the nation. North Korea should reveal details of the South Korean war prisoners and should repatriate them at once. The remains of the dead war prisoners also should be sent back to their families in South Korea.
