[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]More data on social services

I was impressed with and deeply moved by the Nov. 25 report on the plight of hundreds of destitute women and men living in a “cell village” in Yeongdeungpo.
Many readers would likely be interested in learning more about social services and programs, such as Im Myung-hee’s consultation center, which are reaching out to and serving marginalized populations. One can only wonder in shock at the fates of the hundreds of people (and Mr. Im’s services) displaced by a government decision to spruce up a neighborhood.
As a foreigner living in Seoul and working at a private school, I am often poorly informed about social services available for people struggling with poverty. I suspect many readers, if given the opportunity, would reach out to support their fellow residents through viable social programs.
