[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]‘Honor’ and reform
Published: 02 Jun. 2004, 22:26
It appears that when certain people get powerful in Korea, whether in the public or private sector, they become oblivious to public perception. The sense of one’s place in the great scheme of things is lost. They perceive the world to revolve only around themselves. Perhaps this poses the biggest challenge of all to the president ― how to change the mindset of his people. As an example, ministers captured in newspapers shaking hands with heads of jaebeol give no comfort of reform of past “crony capitalism.” No reform can happen until mindsets of public officials are altered. Mr. Roh’s impact is minimized in these difficult times.
