[LETTER TO THE EDITOR]Talk is no longer enough

I entirely agree with the editorial “Now, progress needed” (July 11). South Korea and the other members of the six-party talks should now strive to achieve practical results. The North must realize that mere “talks” with them have been wasting the time of all the participating nations.
Since the first talks with the North, South Korea has achieved nothing but agreements to provide more aid to North Korea. Every time talks between the two end, it is reported that the South has decided to increase its aid to the North.
The upcoming six-party talks must put an end to such repetitions. The six countries must cooperate and try to find a compatible solution to the current nuclear crisis. Though the United States and South Korea should obtain pragmatic results, they must also be ready to flexibly respond to the demands of the North. This is essential for the sake of the Korean Peninsula.
