‘운하에서 신원이 확인되기 전까지 사격할 수 없다’. 난감해진 서독 정부가 동독에 금품을 주고 맺은 새 협약이었다. 그래도 희생자는 줄지 않았다. 신원을 알아내는 절차가 복잡했다.

ⓒfires with → fires off ‘(총알)을 발사하다’는 표현에는 ‘fire off’사용. 참고로 전치사 off는 ‘분리, 출발, 발사’의 의미를 지니고 있음
ⓓtrigger → aim 문맥상 ‘겨냥한다’는 의미인 ‘aim’으로 수정. 참고로 ‘trigger’는 ‘방아쇠를 당긴다’는 의미가 있음
