바오밥
‘어린 왕자’가 사는 별나라에서 바오밥 나무는 공공의 적이다. 거긴 의자를 몇 걸음 앞으로 당겨 앉기만 하면 하루에 석양을 마흔세 번도 볼 수 있는 작디작은 행성. 키와 둘레가 수십 미터씩 되는 이 나무 한두 그루면 산산조각이 날 수밖에 없다. 씨앗이 싹을 틔우기 무섭게 뽑아 버려야 하는 이유다.
내가 한 영작

아프리카의 희소식과 달리 요즘 북한 관련 뉴스는 암울 일색이다. 춘궁기인 데다 외부 원조마저 뜸해 식량난이 여간 심각하지 않단다. 어린이 절반 이상이 영양실조라는 발표도 나왔다. 바오밥 나무가 없으면 사과나무라도 열심히 심어야 할 판에 핵실험과 미사일 발사에만 열을 올리니 참 딱한 노릇이다.
