Korean War veterans offer flowers on June 25 to commemorate their fellow sailors who fell on June 25, 1950, on the sea off Busan. On that day, as the Korean War (1950-53) broke out, South Korean sailors on the Baekdusan, a 600-ton warship, destroyed a 1,000-ton North Korean warship with 600 combat troops onboard attempting to infiltrate Busan. The victory enabled South Korea to prevent North Korea from simultaneously staging battles on both the front and rear lines. [NEWSIS]
