Park scores for AS Monaco

After having recently inked a contract extension that would keep him with AS Monaco through 2013, South Korean forward Park Chu-young contributed a goal to the team’s 3-1 win against Boulogne at Stade de la Liberation in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, yesterday. With the win, AS Monaco jumped to second in the French Ligue 1 standings.

Park scored the opening goal in the 36th minute to put the visiting team up by a goal. It was Park’s third goal of the season and his first goal since the match against Marseille on Oct. 3.

Park was substituted out of the match for Serge Gakpe in the 72nd minute with the match tied at 1-1. AS Monaco was at an advantage as it played a large chunk of the match against a Boulogne that was only operating with 10 men.

Boulogne’s Kevin Das Neves was ejected from the match for tackling Alejandro Alonso two minutes after Park’s goal. Due to Das Neves’ ejection, it seemed the team was destined for a tie against the 17th-ranked Boulogne club after Jeremy Blayac scored the equalizer in the 66th minute. But Brazilian forward Nene came to the team’s rescue as his free kicks found the back of the net twice, in the 86th and 90th minute of the match.
