700 years to bloom

After 700 years of waiting, the lotuses finally get to bloom. The Gaya National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage in May last year found 10 lotus seeds approximately four meters beneath a pond in Seongsan Fortress. The institute estimated the seeds are from the Goryeo Dynasty (918- 1392). Out of 10 seeds, three germinated. Haman Agricultural Center is planning to cultivate the ancient lotuses to make a lotus park by December next year. [YONHAP]

700년 동안의 기다림 끝에 연꽃이 드디어 피었다. 지난해 5월 가야문화재연구소가 성산산성 내 연못 지하 4미터 정도에서 10개의 연 씨앗을 발견했다. 연구소는 이 씨앗들을 고려시대 것으로 추정했다. 이 중 3개가 발아했다. 함안농업기술센터는 고대 연꽃들을 재배해서 내년 12월까지 연꽃공원을 조성할 계획이다. [연합]
