LCD makers to ramp up production in Q4

Despite a severe slump in prices, global makers of LCD panels are expected to increase their output in the fourth quarter, a market researcher said yesterday.

According to DisplaySearch, global LCD panel makers operated their production lines at 75 percent of their full capacity in October, up 7 percentage points from the previous month.

The research firm predicted that LCD panel makers will operate manufacturing lines at around the same level for the next two months at about 74 percent and 72 percent of their full capacity.

DisplaySearch said the increase in production comes from ramped-up efforts by the two panel makers in Korea, Samsung Electronics and LG Display, which outstripped their rivals in Japan and Taiwan in terms of output.

The world’s two biggest panel suppliers are operating manufacturing lines at 84 percent to 85 percent of their full capacity to meet increased demand from TV makers during the holiday seasons, DisplaySearch said.
