Popular idol groups Girls’ Generation, KARA and TVXQ will feature in the annual Japanese New Year’s Eve concert, “The 62nd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.”
The concert is hosted by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK and features the most popular artists of the year. On Nov. 30, NHK announced that 55 groups are set to perform in the event and the three idol g
roups will be the only Korean artists performing in this year’s concert.
BoA and TVXQ are the only Korean groups to have previously been featured in the New Year’s Eve concert. This year will be TVXQ’s third time performing at the event.
Leader of the girl group KARA, Gyuri, told the media during a Nov. 30 press conference where the names of performing artists were announced, “It was my dream from our first debut in Japan to perform at the
Kohaku Uta Gassen. Five of us will give it our best to make it the best performance ever.”
Girls’ Generation’s Soo-young said, “I’m so happy to be performing at the historical concert. It’s such an honor to be following in the footsteps of TVXQ and BoA. We’ll give it our best.”
