Girls’ Generation’s first Japanese album set to exceed one million in sales

Japanese media reported on Dec. 7 that the album released in June has sold 850,000 copies to date and is expected to reach the one million mark very soon. The album, titled “Japan 1st Album Girls’ Generation,” will be repackaged on Dec. 28 to encourage further sales.

The repackaged album will feature a new song, “Time Machine,” as well as a Japanese version of the world-wide hit “The Boys.”
In addition, three of the tracks from the original album will be presented as remixes. If the album reaches the one million mark, it will set a new record for the most number of albums sold by a Korean artist or group in Japan.

Japanese media attributed the band’s rising popularity to the group’s numerous television appearances. The band is also scheduled to perform at the famed end-of-year Japanese concert “Kohaku Uta Gassen.”
