3 senior GNP leaders quit in disgust

한나라당 최고위원 3명이 어제 최고위원직 동반 사퇴를 발표하면서 무너지고 있던 홍준표 대표체제에 큰 충격을 줬고 한나라당의 존립 자체를 위태롭게 만들었다.
Representatives Yoo Seong-min, Won Hee-ryong and Nam Kyung-pil held press conferences one after another yesterday morning and made public their decision to step down from the GNP Supreme Council, urging other senior leaders to follow suit. Their moves reflected the growing desperation of GNP lawmakers ahead of April's legislative elections.

But the embattled Hong refused to resign yesterday. Representative Yoo, a loyalist of former GNP chairwoman Park Geun-hye, was the first to announce his decision to leave the Supreme Council. “As a member of the leadership, I am stepping down for having failed to rescue the party from its crisis,” Yoo said.

그러나 궁지에 몰린 홍준표 대표는 어제 사퇴를 거부했다. 박근혜 전 한나라당 대표의 측근인 유승민 의원이 가장 먼저 최고위원직 사퇴를 발표했다. 유 의원은 “지도부의 한 사람으로서 존망의 위기에 처한 당을 구하지 못한 책임을 지고 물러난다”고 말했다.
Yoo said the GNP’s defeat in the Oct. 26 Seoul mayoral by-election first prompted him to think about leaving the Supreme Council. But the decisive moment came with the recent arrest of a GNP lawmaker’s aide over an alleged cyberattack on the National Election Commission on the by-election day.

유 의원은 10월26일 서울시장 보궐선거에서 한나라당이 패배했을 때부터 최고위원직 사퇴를 고려해왔다고 말했다. 그러나 한나라당 국회의원의 수행비서가 보궐선거일에 선관위 웹사이트를 디도스 공격으로 마비시킨 혐의로 최근 체포되면서 결정의 순간이 왔다.
“I feel responsible for the party’s lethargic handling of the situation,” he said, “and I have decided to leave the leadership.” In his press conference, Representative Won urged the Supreme Council members to “dismantle the GNP without reservation and play a role to open a path for a new political movement.”
