Yu Kyung-sun named chief Olympic delegate

Yu Kyung-sun, the chairman of local business group Eugene, was named as the head of Korea’s athletic delegation to the London Olympics yesterday.

The Korean Olympic Committee announced it named Yu, 56, as the chief delegate at its board meeting. Yu has also been the president of the Asian Triathlon Confederation since 2003 and a vice president of the International Triathlon Union since 2008.

Yu, a career businessman with the cement maker Eugene, first became involved with athletics as the chairman of the Korea Triathlon Federation in 2000. He has since worked with the KOC and the Olympic Council of Asia.

Yu has also served on the organizing committees for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

“I see this as a great personal honor, as a businessman who has taken great interest in the development of sports on the national level,” Yu said. “But I also feel a great deal of responsibility. I will spare no effort in making sure all our athletes can perform to their capabilities.” Yonhap
