LG heading into realm of cloud computing with VDI

LG Electronics said yesterday it will enhance its cooperation with global solution companies to spearhead its business in the realm of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

VDI is a variation of server-based computing system where PCs are replaced by a virtual machine operating on a central server. This means users can recreate their desktops simply by using a display device such as a cloud monitor. The solution providers supply the operating system and server.

LG Electronics invited 2,000 officials from companies including Microsoft, Citrix and VMware to a seminar on the new technology held at a hotel in Seoul yesterday.

This is the first event the Korean electronics company has organized in hope of establishing a partnership with solution companies while offering a clear business strategy.

Morgan Stanley expects demand for global VDI software to grow more than 50 percent a year.
