2012.5.4 Weekend Picks

K-League

* Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (5-2-3) at Incheon United (1-3-6)

* Incheon Football Stadium

* Saturday, 3 p.m.

Defending champion Jeonbuk enters this match after a dramatic win against Guangzhou Evergrande in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday and will hope to see another brilliant performance from reigning MVP Lee Dong-gook. Lee is currently the third-best scorer in the league with six goals.

Incheon, who lost coach Huh Jung-moo on April 11, hadn’t won a match since March 24. The teams are neck-and-neck in their overall head-to-head record with Incheon winning five, drawing five and losing six matches against Jeonbuk.

KBO

* Doosan Bears (11-5-1) at LG Twins (10-8-0)

* Jamsil Stadium, Seoul

* Friday, 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m.

Two Seoul rivals that share Jamsil Stadium will meet for the first time this season. Both ball clubs are being led by rookie managers this season - Kim Jin-wook for the Bears and Kim Ki-tae for the Twins.

The Twins’ attack is led by Jung Sung-hoon, who won the KBO monthly MVP award. The team is first in the league in stolen bases, thanks in large part to Lee Dae-hyung.

The Bears have a stronger rotation than the Twins. The team’s ERA is 3.65, second behind the SK Wyverns.

As it is Children’s Day tomorrow, there will be various events at Jamsil Stadium including a running event with players on the field. Children will be admitted for free, but only for outfield seats.

* Hanwha Eagles (5-14) at Samsung Lions (7-11)

* Daegu Stadium

* Friday, 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m.

The defending champion Lions host the league-bottom Eagles in the hopes of rebounding from a sluggish start.

The highlight of this series will be when the Eagles’ starting pitcher Park Chan-ho meets the Lions’ veteran slugger Lee Seung-yeop. Park, who amassed 124 wins in Major League Baseball - the most by any Asian - is expected to start tomorrow, and fans will watch two legendary players going against each other. Park has only one win and one loss in his four starts, but has a stable 2.91 ERA.

Lee, who is the all-time third-best leader in career home runs at 329, is showing an impressive performance early this year, with a 0.382 batting average and a slugging percentage of 0.735.
