Starbucks takes flak for hiking coffee prices by 300 won

Starbucks Korea announced it would raise prices of 32 kinds of coffees by 300 won ($ 0.27) starting Monday as it can no longer cover the rising costs of coffee beans, milk and rent.

Prices of all of the coffeehouse’s top five selling items in the country - including cafe Americano, cafe latte, caramel macchiato, cafe mocha, and green tea frappuccino - will rise.

A tall Americano will go up to 3,900 won and the same-size caramel macchiato will climb to 5,400 won.

The company said it would instead lower the prices of its tea lattes, including lavender and earl gray, by between 100 won and 200 won. Consumer organizations have criticized the move as the tea lattes are less popular.
