Soldiers’ smartphones are risky
The new generation of soldiers’ use of smartphones in the military rings alarm bells for our national security./ 부대 내에서 신세대 병사들이 스마트폰을 사용하면서 국가 보안에 경보가 울리고 있다/ They frequently violate the regulation which strictly bans import of smartphones to their compounds because they find it increasingly difficult to kick their habit they developed before enlisting./ 그들은 입대하기 전에 형성된 그들의 습관을 버리는 것이 점점 더 어려워지기 때문에 부대로 스마트폰을 반입하지 못하도록 엄격하게 금지하고 있는 규정을 자주 위반하고 있다/ In the process of communicating via social networking services and using the Internet, various types of military secrets can be leaked to the outside./ 소셜 네트워크 서비스와 인터넷을 통해 의사소통을 하는 과정에서 다양한 유형의 군사기밀이 외부에 누출될 수 있다/According to explanations by a soldier who was recently discharged from active service, one out of three soldiers are known to have smart phones./ 최근에 소집이 해제된 한 병사의 설명에 따르면 세 명의 병사 중 한 명이 스마트폰을 가지고 있는 것으로 알려져 있다/ Yet it is utterly shocking that military authorities have not yet determined how many soldiers currently possess smartphones in their military compound./ 하지만 군 당국은 아직도 얼마나 많은 병사들이 현재 스마트폰을 부대 내에서 가지고 있는지조차 모른다니 더 충격적이다/
Security experts have consistently raised serious concerns over the alarming new reality./ 안보 전문가들은 새로운 현실에 대한 심각한 우려를 일관되게 제기해 왔다/ However, the young soldiers’ sense of responsibility and attitudes turned out to have been considerably improved compared to the past, according to a series of surveys on their military life./ 하지만 군 생활에 관한 일련의 조사에 따르면 과거와 비교해서 젋은 병사들의 책임감과 태도는 상당히 개선된 것으로 밝혀졌다/ The military also made a considerable effort to minimize intervention on their privacy in a sharp departure from its earlier practice mostly bent on coercive methods instead of a respect for individuals. / 군 당국도 또한 개인을 존중하는 대신 강압적인 방식에 의존해왔던 예전의 관행에서 벗어나 프라이버시에 대한 간섭을 최소화하기 위해 상당한 노력을 해왔다/
A considerable number of young soldiers bring in smartphones at the risk of arrest once it is detected because they are addicted to the convenient gadget./ 젊은 병사들의 상당수가 편리한 도구에 중독되어 있기 때문에 일단 발각되면 체포될 위험에도 스마트폰을 가지고 온다고 한다/ That’s a serious threat to our security./ 이 문제는 우리의 보안에 심각한 위협이다/ The military has imposed a strict restriction on the use of smartphones as it could harm military security./ 군 당국은 군 보안에 해를 줄 수 있는 스마트폰의 사용을 엄격하게 제한해 왔다/ Only when it is indispensable for doing their jobs are officers and noncommissioned officers allowed to carry smartphones, and only after they have their phones officially registered./ 업무상 필요한 경우 장교와 부사관은 휴대가 가능하지만 그것도 공식적으로 등록을 한 후에나 사용하도록 되어 있다/
Frequent security accidents continue to occur in our military as seen in an earlier case in which a high-ranking general leaked second-level military intelligence to a man with close ties to North Korea and another case where a military exercise was delivered live to a pro-North Korean official via the Internet./ 고위 장성이 2급 군사 기밀을 친북 인사에게 누출한 경우와 인터넷을 통해 군대의 훈련 상황이 실시간으로 친북 당국자에게 제공된 경우에서 알 수 있듯이 잦은 보안 사고가 지속적으로 군에서 발생하고 있다/ Military information leaks through hacking also continue to occur in an organization which cherishes security most./ 보안을 가장 중요하게 생각해야 할 조직에서 해킹을 통해 군사정보가 계속 누출되고 있다/ North Korea is notorious for its unrivalled cyberwar capabilities./ 북한은 타의 추종을 불허하는 사이버전쟁 능력으로 악명이 높다/ Yet the lax sense of security in the military has reached a worrisome level./ 하지만 군부대 내의 느슨한 보안 의식은 걱정되는 수준에 다다랐다/ It must come up with concrete solutions to correct the situation before it’s too late./ 너무 늦기 전에 상황을 바꿀 수 있는 견고한 해결책을 찾아야만 한다/
