University of Wisconsin alumni honor GS Caltrex chairman

Chairman Hur Dong-soo of GS Caltex was awarded this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award from the Wisconsin Alumni Association at a New Year’s gathering of alumni.

Hur was honored by the local alumni chapter Saturday for his contribution to the country’s oil industry. GS Caltex became the second local company to chalk up $25 billion in exports last year, after Samsung Electronics. It was awarded a $25 billion Export Tower Award in December.

Hur received his master’s degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1968 and 1971 after graduating from Yonsei University in 1966.
