‘K-pop Star’ seeks auditions

Broadcaster SBS is preparing for another season of the survival-audition program “K-pop Star.” The show’s third edition began accepting applications Monday, according to SBS. The show will accept applications until Sept. 13, and anyone who wants to compete can apply via phone.

“Based on the applications we have accepted so far, we think Season 3 will have the largest number [of applicants],” said an official.

Primary auditions will begin in each region on Aug. 17. The first round of primary auditions will be held in Busan and will last until Sept. 14. U.S. primary auditions will be held in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and elsewhere.

Akdong Musician, a brother-and-sister duo that won the competition in Season 2, signed a management contract with YG Entertainment and is preparing for its official debut. Since the show ended in April, only Andrew Choi, who reinvented himself from a composer to a singer through the program, has released an album last month and made an official debut.
