GM Korea recalls electric hybrid for defective batteries

GM Korea, the Korean unit of U.S. automaker General Motors, will recall 1,213 units of the Alpheon 2.4 eAssist due to defective battery chargers, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said yesterday.
The Transport Ministry said the default charger may not recharge the car’s battery, which may cause the car to stop during operation or fail to start. Alpheon eAssist is the first hybrid vehicle from the company and the first in its segment in Korea. Alpheon is also a localized version of GM’s Buick LaCrosse.
The ministry said models produced between Aug. 21, 2011, and Feb. 13, 2013, are subject to recall. Owners of recalled vehicles can receive free repair services at any GM Korea service center
