Damon to promote ‘Elysium’ in Korea

Hollywood star Matt Damon will travel to Korea for the first time next month to promote his upcoming movie “Elysium,” according to the movie’s local distributor.

Although the exact date and length of his visit are unknown, it’s said that he will participate in a variety of events, including a press conference and a fan meeting on the red carpet.

As Damon built his name among Korean fans through the “Bourne” series and the 1997 movie “Good Will Hunting”, many netizens have shown their excitement online.

He will accompany another actor, Sharlto Copley, of the 2009 film “District 9.”

“Elysium” is a science fiction movie that features a fight for survival as Max, played by Damon, tries to enter a utopian space station made for the rich, while other people must fend for themselves on a ruined Earth in 2154. The film is scheduled to be released here on Aug. 29.

Meanwhile, other big-name stars, including Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton, will arrive in Korea today to meet fans and promote their new movie “Snowpiercer,” directed by Korean Bong Joon-ho.

They will have a press conference in the morning and then meet fans at Times Square in Yeongdeungpo, southwestern Seoul, in the evening.
