Oh talks of postpartum depression
Actress Oh Yoon-ah of the SBS drama “Incarnation of Money” said she suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her first child.
“I never thought I would experience such an emotion, even though a nurse told me that more than 90 percent of expecting mothers have gone through such feelings,” said Oh, on SBS talk show “Hwashin - Controller of the Heart,” on Tuesday.
However, soon after giving birth, Oh grew depressed. “I didn’t feel it right after going through labor, but [later] I started to feel that people were focusing only on the child, rather than me, when I was breast-feeding the child,” she recalled.
“And then I started to feel that I was only there to just give birth to another human being.”
Oh also said she had a hard time breast-feeding due to the stress she was going through at the time.
Other hosts on the show tried to lighten the serious mood after Oh’s revelation. Shin Dong-yup said one of his acquaintances complained that breast-feeding her baby caused the shape of her breasts to change, while Kim Hee-sun said having bigger breasts had helped her get through breast-feeding.
