MBC cancels ‘Welcome to Korea’

Broadcaster MBC’s entertainment show “Welcome to Korea” will air its final episode on Nov. 8, just over a month after its launch.

While some local media suggested that the broadcaster decided to cancel the show due to a low audience viewership rate, the company reportedly said that they had always planned for a series made up of only five episodes.

The show, which appeared after the sudden cancellation of “Splash,” a program where many celebrities received injuries after taking on diving challenges, invites foreign college students to traditional homes to learn Korean.

“As the program required frequent traveling in and out of the country, it was never planned to go on for a long time,” said an official at the broadcaster, according to press reports.

No other regular program is planned to air at the same time on Fridays as of yet.
