KT among the elite on environment

KT has joined a handful of Korean companies assessed as the world’s best in terms of carbon management.

Korea’s second-largest mobile carrier said yesterday it was newly included in the Carbon Management Global Leaders Club, whose membership is determined by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a U.K. nonprofit.

Established in 2003, the CDP ranks companies to encourage adoption of better carbon management procedures. Its Korean committee has measured the 250 largest Korean companies since 2008.

KT has been named among the best carbon managers in the local mobile industry since 2010, but it is the first time it was included in the CDP’s Global Leaders Club of winners in various industries. The other four local members of the club are Samsung Electro-Mechanics, SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics and Samsung C&T.

CDP rankings combine the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, which measures transparency in carbon management, and the Carbon Performance Leadership Index, which measures progress on carbon management goals.

KT said it received 100 points, a perfect score, in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index and was among the Band A companies that received the highest points in the Carbon Performance Leadership Index.

“Environmental management is one of the most important strategies for us in order to grow into a global leader in green ICT convergence,” said Kim Eun-hye of KT. “We will not be satisfied with this outcome and will pursue continuous improvement in carbon management.”
