Hanwha Group honored for preventing desertification

Hanwha Group’s CSR campaign “Hanwha Solar Forest,” which is supported by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, has won the top prize in the annual Korea Public Relations Association awards.

The association credited the nation’s 10th-largest conglomerate with preventing desertification worldwide.

Since 2011, Hanwha has used a mobile gaming app called Tree Planet to foster its campaign. Gamers try to grow virtual trees, then Hanwha employees will actually plant trees. So far, 600,000 persons have used the app.

Last year, Hanwha planted 230,000 trees in Mongolia’s Tujin Nars Nature Reserve, and two months ago it did the same for the Baijitan Nature Reserve in China, planting 200,000 trees.
