Samsung Heavy Industries adds $300 million in orders

Samsung Heavy Industries said yesterday it has secured a combined $300 million in orders for three ships.

The affiliate of Samsung Group said it won an order from global shipping company BW to deliver one liquefied natural gas floating storage regasification unit (LNG-FSRU) by 2016.

So far this year, Samsung Heavy Industries has collected $3 billion in orders by making two LNG-FSRU and 12 LNG carriers. The company said it has a third of the LNG carrier orders in the world this year.

Meanwhile, the ship manufacturer on Tuesday sealed a contract with a European shipper to provide two petrochemical carriers.

Including these contracts, the company said it has had orders worth $12.6 billion this year, 97 percent of its order target of $13 billion for 2013.
