Koo dropped after drunken driving

Singer Koo Ja-myung, better known as the winner of 2011 MBC audition program “Birth of a Great Star,” was caught driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Ilsan Police Precinct yesterday.

“Koo bumped into the underground roadway of Jeongbalsan-dong, Ilsan, Gyeonggi, at 5:30 a.m. yesterday,” a police official told local media. The singer’s blood alcohol content was 0.133 percent, which is usually enough to result in a temporary suspension from driving.

Although Koo did not have any serious injuries, he was taken to an emergency room nearby to get checked over.

After playing on the Korean national under-17 football team in 2007, Koo started his music career by appearing on the MBC audition show, which helped him get recruited by the guitarist and music producer Kim Tae-won of legendary rock band Boohwal.

The KBS sports entertainment show “Cool Kiz on the Block,” where Koo was engaged as a football team member, announced yesterday that he will no longer play on the show.

Meanwhile, the “Cool Kiz” team takes off to Brazil on May 27 to support the Korean national team at the 2014 World Cup.
