S-Oil releases new lube oil for foreign, local sales

S-Oil, the nation’s third-largest refiner, said yesterday it introduced a new lubricating oil for the domestic and overseas premium market.

The company held a ceremony to launch its premium lube oil brand S-OIL 7 at the Banyan Tree Club and Spa hotel in Seoul on Monday and unveiled a total of six 100 percent synthetic engine oil products.

“Manufacturing all products based on a feedstock of 100 percent synthetic base oils is a very rare case among domestic major lube oil brands,” the company said in a release.

S-Oil will be in charge of feedstock supply, product development and overseas sales, while subsidiary STLC is responsible for the manufacture of the lubricant and domestic sales.

The company has been a key supplier in the global lube oil market with a capacity of 42,700 barrels per day. It has the world’s largest single-location production facility among manufacturers of all Group I, II and III lube base oils.

S-Oil said that the “7” symbolizes five functions required for engines - fuel economy, eco-friendliness, drivability, durability, and cleanness - plus two customer requirements, which are the improvement of the driving performance of cars and driver satisfaction.

“Marking the 25th anniversary of our entry into the finished lube oil market in 1989, we will take the launch of this new brand as an opportunity to expand and develop our lube oil business,” S-Oil CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher said.
