SKT head promotes ICT, says company will work toward 5G

Ha Sung-min, SK Telecom’s CEO, said yesterday the nation’s No. 1 mobile carrier will lead the next 30 years of Korea’s mobile communications industry through a new idea he called ICTnomics.

Ha suggested ICTnomics during his keynote address at the ICT Development conference held at the Korea Federation of Banks hall in Myeong-dong, central Seoul. ICTnomics refers to a new form of economy in which ICT will act as a catalyst for innovative changes in society.

Ha said that the first stop toward ICTnomics is building the 5th-generation (5G) network, which will be ultra high speed and highly connected.

5G is a technology that provides 1,000 times faster speed than the 4G LTE and SK Telecom set itself the goal of becoming the world’s first mobile carrier to use 5G by 2020.
