August release date for ‘Haemoo’

One of this season’s most anticipated films, “Haemoo,” teased its official poster yesterday, while the movie’s distributor NEW also announced that the film will start screening in cinemas on Aug. 13.

The film is based on a real-life accident that occurred in Yeosu, South Jeolla, in 2001, where dozens of ethnic Korean-Chinese people attempted to smuggle themselves onto Korean soil but ended up suffocating inside a ship. The tale, according to the distributor, will highlight inconvenient truths about human nature.

Haemoo is a Korean word that means “sea fog.” Korean auteur Bong Joon-ho of “Snowpiercer” (2013) is the movie’s chief producer, while Shim Sung-bo, screenwriter of the award-winning 2003 thriller “Memories of Murder,” directed the film. Kim Yun-seok and Park Yu-chun star in the movie.
