Winner hits No. 1 with ‘Empty’

New boy group Winner hit No. 1 on major online music charts yesterday, soon after its album release early in the morning.

“Empty,” one of two title songs on Winner’s debut album “2014 S/S,” is at the top of the nation’s most important charts such as Mnet, Olleh Music and Naver Music, according to the group’s agency, YG Entertainment, yesterday.

The other title song “Color Ring” also ranked high, along with other tracks included on the album, which boasts a total of 10 songs.

“Because it’s hard to find a precedent for a rookie to put a debut album high on local charts, although many popular singers have done it before when they bring out new albums, many are talking about [the record],” said YG Entertainment.

All the members contributed their talents to composing and writing the album’s lyrics.

“The efforts they have put in are reflected in the high ranking achieved on the music charts,” said the agency.

The group will have an official debut performance at YG Family Concert, which is part of the “AIA Real Life: Now Festival 2014,” at Jamsil Sports Complex in Songpa District, southern Seoul, on Friday.
