Mahindra signs deal to sell Alton bikes in North America

India’s Mahindra Group yesterday said that it had signed an agreement to be the exclusive North America distributor for electric bicycles made by Alton Sports, Korea’s largest bicycle manufacturer.

Mahindra will sell Alton’s electric bicycle models in the United States, Canada and Mexico under the exclusive agreement.

At present, these bikes are only available in Korea.

Mahindra is best known in Korea as the owner of Ssangyong Motor. Since the acquisition in 2009, the Indian group has been looking for opportunities to expand its partnerships with Korean companies.

The Mahindra-Alton deal follows an announcement in July that IT company Tech Mahindra, was planning to expand in Korea.
