Is Trainor’s tune plagiarized?

Allegations of plagiarism have been made about Meghan Trainor’s Billboard-charting song “All About That Bass,” according to local media reports.

Netizens stated online that the song is very similar to “Joy Mode,” which is sung by Koyote and was composed by Joo Young-hoon in 2006.

U.S. singer Trainor’s track was released last month and was ranked No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart this week.

Many netizens posted the two songs online and compared them, commenting that the part Koyote member Kim Jong-min sings is very similar to some bits of “All About That Bass.”

The Korean composer said earlier this month on Twitter that it might be coincidental.

“Could the song really be plagiarized?” he questioned. Joo then told an acquaintance on social media that he has been contacted by someone in the United States, so might be looking for a lawyer specializing in copyrights.
