S-Oil’s nonprofit foundation gives funds to young scientists

S-Oil, the nation’s third-largest refiner, said on Monday its nonprofit foundation S-Oil Science Prodigy and Culture Foundation held a ceremony for the “Fourth Dissertation of the Year Awards” at the Korea Press Center in Seoul and gave 145 million won ($132,000) in fellowships to five young winners in the mathematics, biology and earth science categories.

The S-OIL Dissertation of the Year Awards was established in 2011 in order to foster academic research in the five basic sciences.

The foundation selects the best researchers on the recommendation of the Korea Academy of Science and Technology and the Korean University Presidents Association and offers them study fellowships.
