JYP introduces a new singer

Producer and head of JYP Entertainment Park Jin-young introduced a new singer on Friday.

G-Soul, Park’s newest protegee, is signed to the agency and will debut later this month.

Using Twitter’s longer tweet function, Park wrote in a lengthy message, “I met a shy 13-year-old boy in 2001. I was surprised to find out that the boy had a more soulful voice than African-American singers.

“He saved bus fares for two months and purchased a cassette tape of Boyz II Men with that money and listened to it until it broke. So we decided to send him to the United States to learn more about music.”

G-Soul was a trainee under JYP when he went to the States, and Park said the agency provided him a minimum amount of money for his expenses. The agency said “he recently came back from the States with 20 songs of his own.”

G-Soul has trained under JYP for 15 years and will release his first studio album on Jan. 19.
