Ex-manager of Ladies’ Code appeals

The former manager of Ladies’ Code, who is serving a year and two months in prison for being behind the wheel during a fatal car crash that killed two members of the band, appealed against his conviction Friday.

The ex-manager, surnamed Park, was driving a van carrying the seven members of the girl group last September and hit a protective wall off the highway as he was heading from Yongin, Gyeonggi, to Seoul.

Kwon Ri-se and Koh Eun-bi died in the car accident while the other five members suffered serious injuries.

Polaris Entertainment, the band’s agency, said the van had defects.

But prosecutors said the vehicle had no technical problems and concluded that the incident was Park’s fault because he was driving over the speed limit when it crashed.

Park tried to settle the case outside of court with the deceased families of the late two members, but the parties did not reach an agreement.
