YG acts get YouTube awards

Boy group Big Bang and girl group 2NE1 were chosen as winners in the second Youtube Music Awards.

YG Entertainment, the agency of the two groups, said Tuesday that the Big Bang and 2NE1 were included in the 50 winners of the world’s largest video-sharing website’s second annual music awards.

Big Bang has not released an album in almost three years in Korea, but the group still exerted its influence on YouTube.

2NE1, on the other hand, released its second studio album “Crush” earlier last year.

YouTube announced its full lineup of winners Monday. The list includes famed musicians like Sam Smith, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.

During the inaugural music awards in 2013, Girls’ Generation received the best music video award for its track “I Got a Boy.”

Starting this year, however, YouTube decided to announce the list of winners without specifying which musician received which awards.

“Winners were selected based on various factors like the number of hits each music video receives,” said an official from YouTube Korea.

The video-sharing website does not plan to hold an award for the winners.

Big Bang is likely to return to the music scene in the first half of this year, while CL of 2NE1 is accelerating to release her solo album in the United States within this year.

Sandara Park, another member of 2NE1, will try her hand at acting in a new online drama series, a joint project by Korean and Chinese production teams.

The online drama series will be televised through Naver TV Cast in Korea and will air on Youku in China, the biggest video-streaming website in the nation.
