More details in rape scandal

The K-pop boy band Zest, which recently found itself embroiled in scandal, said on Friday that the woman who accused one of its members of rape is the member of a girl group.

After news broke on Thursday that one of the boys from the fledgling band had been accused of raping a young woman in her 20s, local news outlets speculated that the girl may have been from another K-pop group.

“It’s true. The woman is a member of a girl group, though her band is not performing right now,” Zest’s agency, Zenith Media Contents, told online news agency OSEN on Friday.

The woman filed a report against the singer to the Gangnam Police Precinct last month, while reports of the incident just surfaced on Thursday.

According to the report, the entertainer in question raped the woman in November after they met through mutual friends. She added that the singer visited her home a few days after the attack and attempted to rape her again.

Zest’s agency said the alleged victim began blackmailing the singer months ago.

“The woman spread groundless rumors online and we have documents backing it up,” the agency added.

The agency said it had previously sued her for defamation in early February.

Zest debuted last November with the release of their digital single “My All,” but the boy band failed to gain much publicity until the rape accusations.
