Shinsegae has announced plans to open a duty-free shop at its main department store in central Seoul. Korea’s No. 2 retailer will renovate the existing luxury shopping hall, which was built in 1930 as Korea’s first department store.
In addition, the retailer will buy a nearby building owned by Standard Chartered Bank to be used for a duty-free service facility and Hallyu-themed cultural museum, according to the company.
Shinsegae’s central Seoul store is within walking distance of Myeong-dong, a popular spot for Chinese tourists and home to a Lotte duty-free shop.
