Lee Moon-sae to take part in ‘Reply’ series

Veteran singer Lee Moon-sae will narrate a special episode of the upcoming drama series “Reply 1988.”

The drama series is a spinoff of the popular drama series “Reply 1997,” which was originally broadcast in 2012. The cable TV drama set in 1997 succeeded in attracting many viewers who grew up in the 1990s, and its tremendous popularity spawned “Reply 1994” in 2013.

Broadcaster tvN said on Wednesday that Lee was chosen as a narrator because he was a big name back in those days. The 56-year-old, soft-spoken singer is still giving concerts and releasing albums, but he was at the top of his game amongst teenagers back in the ’80s.

The special episode featuring Lee will air on Oct. 30 at 8:30 p.m. TvN said the special episode is a comprehensive introduction to the 1980s and will also mention the show’s main characters.

Hyeri, a member of the K-pop group Girl’s Day, plays one of the main characters. Other budding actors, such as Park Bo-gum and Go Kyung-pyo, will act out the parts of kids living in the ’80s.

The “Reply” series is known as a stepping stone to success for obscure actors. Seo In-guk, Yoo Yeon-seok and Jung Woo all soared to stardom after appearing in the drama series.

The very first episode of “Reply 1988” is set to broadcast on Nov. 6 at 7:50 p.m.
