The 27-year-old thanked his staff and cast mates during his acceptance speech.
“I was concerned about playing Baek Seung-chan, because [the role came] right after the much-loved character Do Min-jun.”
Kim’s portrayal of Baek in “Producers” is a sharp departure from his role as the cold-hearted Do Min-jun in the 2014 hit drama series “My Love from the Star.”
In the drama series, Baek is a clumsy and awkward fledgling producer trying to find his footing.
The actor added that he was preparing to show audiences his stronger side in his upcoming noir film, “Real,” due to hit theaters nationwide in December.
In it, Kim plays Jang Tae-young, an ambitious young man who wants to build his own casino.
Other actors who received accolades included Yim Si-wan, a member of K-pop boy band ZE:A, who starred in “Misaeng,” the top hit cable channel drama series that aired between October and December 2014.
Dramas that aired between October 2014 and September are automatically nominated for the APAN Star Awards.
Yim received the Best Actor award in the medium-length drama series category.
“Misaeng” has swept annual drama awards shows, and four other actors from the series have gone on to receive honors.
Lee Joon, a former member of the K-pop boy band Mblaq, nabbed the Best Actor award for a full-length drama with “Heard It Through the Grapevine.”
K-pop singer Xiumin, a member of Exo, also received the Web Drama award for his performance in the web drama series “Falling for Do-jeon.”
