Song Il-gook and sons to leave reality show

Actor Song Il-gook and his triplets will leave the popular reality TV show “The Return of Superman.”

The production team of the reality TV show said on Tuesday, “We finished shooting the last episode with Song and his triplets [on Monday]. Since we have enough film of the triplets, you can see them until February.”

The production team had previously denied rumors of Song’s departure from the show with his children several times.

“We feel sorry for the confusion because it took time for us to decide on Song’s departure.”

Song and his children joined the show, in which celebrity fathers take care of their children without their spouses for 48 hours, a year and six months ago.

Since they have been on the show, Song’s three sons have gained tremendous popularity.

Desk and wall calendars featuring 12 different images of the triplets have sold more than 200,000 copies, earning 2 billion won ($1.7 million) in sales last year. Song donated all the proceeds to charities.

Meanwhile, Song reportedly wanted to leave the show for his career.

The 44-year-old recently resumed his acting career.

In his recent film, “Tattoo,” which was released in theaters nationwide earlier this month, Song plays the role of a serial killer.

The actor will also appear in the upcoming period drama series “Jang Yeong-sil” early next year. The drama is based on the real life of Jang Yeong-sil, a scientist during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
