April 30: The festival aims to introduce new sounds in contemporary music under the subtitle “Tasty Contemporary Music.”

Pianist Park Jong-hwa, the Flux Quartet, Mantra Percussion and others will reinterpret contemporary music at the first show.

For the second show, the repertoire encompasses classic to Korean traditional music, and the artists will give the audience a chance to hear instruments many may have never heard live - Hwang Byung-ki plays the gayageum (traditional Korean zither), the Koh Sang-ji Band plays the bandoneon (a type of concertina) and Shim Sung-rak plays the accordion.

The performances start at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Tickets cost 110,000 won ($96) for each show and 154,000 won for two.

CLARA-JUMI KANG & COLOGNE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Seoul Arts Center, Concert Hall

April 30: Clara-Jumi Kang and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra will perform together under the baton of maestro Christoph Poppen. And since this year is the 20th anniversary of Kang’s debut, the performance will be even more special for both the violinist and her fans.

Kang took fourth place at the International Tchaikovsky Competition last year.

The concert will open with Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 in E minor, “Trauer,” and will also feature Mozart’s Violin Concerto in A Major K. 219, “Turkish,” which Kang played 20 years ago at her debut performance at the Seoul Arts Center.

The show starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets range from 40,000 won to 130,000 won.

ANDREA BOCELLI

Olympic Park, Gymnastics Arena

May 1: World-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli is coming to Korea during his world tour. He is famous for not only his lyrical representation of songs but also for mixing classical and pop music as a first-generation performer of the popera genre.

His song “Time to Say Goodbye,” released in 1996 and sung together with Sarah Brightman, has been a great success and won him international fame. This will be his third concert in Korea and his first visit in six years. He will be performing tracks from his latest album, “Cinema,” with maestro Eugene Kohn and the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra.

The show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets range from 115,000 won to 290,000 won.

LUCERNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Concert Hall, Seoul Arts Center

June 24: The Lucerne Symphony Orchestra is coming to Korea for the first time. It represents the city of classics, Lucerne, Switzerland, which holds the Lucerne Festival three times a year. Conductor James Gaffigan, who has been at the helm since 2010, will lead the orchestra.

Pianist Khatia Buniatishvili will play with the orchestra. She gained fame for winning the Foundation to Assist Young Georgian Musicians competition in 2003 and has been actively performing at concerts and festivals since.

The show starts at 8 p.m.

The tickets range from 40,000 won to 200,000 won.
