Seoul responded coolly to Pyongyang’s latest proposal for military talks./ 한국 정부는 최근 북한의 군사회담 제안에 대해 냉담하게 반응했다
North Korea on Friday sent a letter suggesting military talks and impatiently wired another one on the following day through the military line it unilaterally shut down./ 북한은 금요일 군사회담을 제안하는 서한을 보낸데 이어 다음 날 북한이 일방적으로 폐쇄했던 군 통신선을 통해 또 다른 통지문을 보냈다
Seoul’s Defense Ministry flatly turned the offer down saying the heightened tensions in the Korean Peninsula stemmed from North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests,/ 한국 국방부는 북한의 핵실험과 미사일 발사 실험으로 한반도에 긴장이 고조되었다며 그 제안을 단호하게 거절했다
and that it won’t comply with further dialogue unless Pyongyang demonstrates will on denuclearization./ 그리고 북한이 비핵화를 천명하지 않는 한은 더 이상의 대화는 받아들일 수 없다고 밝혔다
The public is again confounded and skeptical why North Korea suddenly wants to talk after all the saber-rattling and threat about nuclear attacks./ 국민들도 핵공격으로 위협할 때는 언제고 갑자기 회담을 하자고 하느냐며 혼란스러워하고 회의적이다

Seoul must not let its guard down, but at the same time leave the options open for dialogue./ 한국은 경계를 늦추지 않는 동시에 대화를 할 수 있는 여지는 열어 두어야 한다
